Decision 52/2025 of the Athens Court of First Instance – Correction of the birth certificate of a transgender man.

With decision no. 52/2025, the Athens Court of First Instance (Regional Office of Marousi) accepted my transgender client’s request to correct his birth certificate so that it correctly states his gender as male and the name of his choice. As correctly pointed out in the decision and in accordance with the law, ” in order to correct the registered gender, it is not necessary to certify that the person has undergone any previous medical intervention or any previous examination or medical treatment related to their physical or mental health.” What matters to the court is how the applicant experiences their gender. At a time when transgender people are under attack, I am delighted to be able to support, as a lawyer and advisor to the “Proud Parents Greece” group, the “birth” of a person with the right gender and the right name.
